I just love a Nora Roberts book and this one is probably my new favorite. The story is about Emma starting from when she is a young girl until she enters young adulthood. Emma is living with her alcoholic mother, Jane, in a less than pleasing apartment. She is terrified of her mother’s rage and abuse. When her father comes to see her after not knowing about her existence he decides to pay Jane to stay away from Emma and takes her home with him. The drastic change to Emma’s life and future is pretty incredible.
Emma’s father, Brian McAvoy, is just starting to become a famous rockstar, is about to marry the love of his life and has another child on the way. When he learns of Emma’s existence he doesn’t believe she is his until he sees her for the first time. Once he sees her there is no denying that she is his daughter. Over the next few years their lives are amazing and happy but that abruptly comes to end when there is a tragic murder that breaks apart the family and threatens to destroy them all.
Genre: Romance Novel
Published: 1990
Format: Audiobook
This story touches on life’s beautiful moments as well as the terrible things it can throw at you. Emma is the only witness to this murder but cannot remember everything she saw due to the trauma. Over the years she struggles to remember who is responsible amidst dealing with an overdose of a loved one, falling in love, an abusive marriage and someone trying to kill her. I would definitely recommend reading this book. I truly loved every moment and loved the ending.
