World War II was the deadliest war in history with over 70 million lost. There were many brave service men and women whose heroic tales will never be known or told. Even though our character in The Lines We Leave Behind is fictionalized, her story is one based in historic fact in regards to the role women played in recent wars.
Over the course of four years, Maud went from working secretly in intelligence based in Yugoslavia to being accused of killing her husband and sent to an insane asylum. I felt as if I was going on this journey with her and couldn’t wait to get to the end to find out how she could not recall committing the crime that landed her in the asylum. Her time in Yugoslavia was not easy and she fell into some very difficult and arduous situations that almost took her life. If that weren’t enough, upon her return to England she finds herself trapped in a dangerous situation with her husband which turns deadly very quickly. You must read the book to find out more!
