This was the very first book I listened to when I joined the Audible community years ago and it remains one of my favorites. The main character Elizabeth lives with her mother who is extremely controlling and coldly detached from her daughter. Elizabeth is sheltered and not cognizant to the ways of the world. One night she finally decides to let loose and accompanies her friend, Julie, to a club where they unwittingly meet some Russian mobsters and agree to go back to their house to continue the party. While at this home Liz is the only witness to a murder and must escape and go into hiding to prevent being killed.

The book moves forward twelve years and you are introduced to Abigail Lowery (Elizabeth) who lives in an isolated and very secure home in Arkansas. Due to her high intelligence and past experience hiding from the Russian mob and the FBI she becomes a highly sought after and highly paid security guru. She ends up meeting Brooks who is the police chief in their town. Brooks somehow gains her trust and affection and she is forced to decide to let him into her life and her past which may put her in danger or shut him out and go on the run again to remain in hiding. You will need to read more to find out which she will choose. Nora Roberts blends suspense and romance perfectly in this story and I could not stop listening!
