The tragedies that befall the Ayres family are horrific. Dr. Faraday is called to Hundreds Hall to tend to the family’s maid who is very sick. Prior to this he hadn’t seen the Ayres family home since he was a boy and his mother was part of their staff. After this encounter he quickly becomes a close friend of the family and starts spending many days and evenings with them between tending to his other patients.

The Ayres family consists of Mrs. Ayres, her son Roderick and her daughter Caroline. Since his father’s passing Roderick has become the head of the household yet with the changing times he is having a hard time keeping the estate going. The first time they notice something is amiss, their well behaved dog, Gyp, attacks the little girl of a family visiting the home. During the time thi attack s is happening Roderick is in his room in another part of the house witnessing some very strange and confusing happenings.

The events that follow are incredibly sad and mysterious. There are many rumors around the small town about what goes on in that house and no one is prepared for what would happen. There are what seems to be many supernatural events that cause a lot of harm but you will end this book wondering if the person they trust the most is actually the culprit. I would definitely recommend this book and can’t wait to watch the movie which was released in September 2018. Make sure to watch!
