So many people are fascinated with the royal family and I can’t deny that I’m one of them. The inner workings of royalty is so different from anything we have in the United States and I enjoy reading about the history behind the monarchy. This is what caught my eye when I found this novel. Although it is fiction it’s fun to imagine what really went on during the courtship and marriage of Wallis Simpson to Edward which caused him to abdicate the throne. I’ve given a brief breakdown of the novel below:

When Rachel goes on vacation to France with her boyfriend Alex she never expects their romantic trip to take such a devastating turn. In their hotel room Alex can’t stand the anticipation and asks Rachel to marry him. She excitedly agrees and they leave their hotel to enjoy a romantic dinner at a local restaurant. During the drive their taxi driver suddenly stops the vehicle because of an accident that occurs directly in front of them. Alex quickly gets out of the car to help and quickly realizes that Princess Diana is in the car and does not appear to be doing well. He finds a small heart-shaped item on the ground and pockets it without paying much attention to the item.

After it is announced that Princess Diana has passed away, Alex and Rachel return home to England where Rachel owns an antique clothing store called Forgotten Dreams and Alex makes documentaries. He decides he wants to make a documentary about the possibility that there was something sinister behind Princess Diana’s death. Rachel has a client that she buys antique clothes from to sell in her store name Susie. She finds out that Susie was friends with Diana and has an interesting link to Wallis Simpson; the woman behind the abdication of Edward VIII. This starts the story of these two women. It goes through what happens to Rachel and Alex during his filming process and the events leading up to when Wallis meets Edward and how he comes to abdicate the throne for her.

This book was an incredibly fun read and I enjoyed the two different story lines. I would recommend you read this one as I truly think you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.
