This story was captivating from the beginning. I never thought about how a house can be a safe haven for so many different families over time. The magic of Birchwood Manor touches the lives of many people and connects them in ways they don’t understand. A young archivist named Elodie Winslow locates a leather satchel along with a photo of an unknown woman which starts her investigation into the past. Artist Edward Radcliffe was a talented painter who disappeared from the world after the death of his fiancee. The photo Elodie discovers points her to another possible reason that Edward withdrew.

Elodie is the daughter of a famous musician who tragically passes away when Elodie is a young girl. During her childhood her great uncle told her a story which takes place at a beautiful manor that Elodie realizes is real and is the same home that Edward Radcliffe owned during the hardest time in his life. Edward had met and fallen in love with one of his models who mysteriously disappears along with the most treasured Radcliffe family heirloom; The Radcliffe Blue. You learn that Lily is not at all the girl that Edward initially believed her to be but Edward cannot believe that the woman he loves would ever betray him and he lives the rest of his days mourning her and the future they had planned together.
At the end of the book you find out what really happened to the love of Edward’s life and it’s incredibly sad. I truly loved how all the characters in the book were all connected in some way and it felt like a puzzle that finally came together in the end. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery and love story.
