This book had me hooked from the very beginning. In my opinion this is a very realistic approach to an apocalyptic event and how quickly the world can turn dangerous when people are forced to survive.
The story is about Coral who is on break from college and decides to go hiking in Idaho when a large black cloud appears on the horizon followed by a huge fire and deadly heat. She luckily finds a cave to find protection from the elements and hides out for a few days. When she runs out of supplies and is able to venture outside she realizes that she is entering a different world than what she is used to. After hiking for a while she finds another survivor and they realize they can trust each other.

The two of them decide it’s easier and safer to stay together and they set off in search of water and food. Their journey takes them through terrifying situations. Since food is scarce and there are minimal animals to be hunted it’s a struggle to survive. People they come across quickly turn to violence so they must avoid all contact with others in addition to trying to remain warm in the quickly dropping temperatures.
If you like apocalyptic novels I would recommend this book. If you are interested in purchasing Gray: The Complete Collection:
