This book had me questioning if you ever really know the person you’re married to and how important it is to really get to know someone before getting married. Marianne is a housewife who is married to a brilliant surgeon named Simon. When they first meet Marianne is an independent working woman who was raised in different foster care homes throughout her childhood and Simon is a widower who is raising his little girl on his own. When they are first married their relationship is full of love and respect although over time things change dramatically.
After a terrible tragedy befalls this newly wedded couple their relationship disintegrates rapidly and they are left with a shadow of what they once shared. Simon starts blaming Marianne for the death of their baby daughter and Marianne feels alone and unloved while trying to grieve. She starts to question Simon’s fidelity and begins to lash out at women that she believes her husband is having an affair with. This behavior causes her to be prescribed anti-psychotic medication and her husband to start treating her as if she’s completely unstable.
Genre: psychological thriller
Published: 2018
Format: audiobook
After they move to a new home she hears her husband say a woman’s name and the way he says it makes her believe this affair is real. What happens after this is a whirlwind of mistrust, detective work, spying and plotting that ends in a murder. I could not stand Simon from the moment he is introduced and feel bad for Marianne. She tries her best to raise his daughter and the two boys that they share together however you see by the end of the story that nothing is ever as it seems. I would definitely recommend this book.
