Carolly Erickson paints a beautiful picture about what Marie Antoinette’s diary would have shown had she kept one. The story begins in her cell waiting for her execution and goes back to the beginning of her story starting at age thirteen. It goes through her marriage to a prince who becomes king of France, her love affairs, parties and eventually her death after the French Revolution.
She is born Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna in Austria in the year 1755 and is married off to Louis-Auguste at age 14. Many of her subjects disliked her due to her promiscuous behavior and lavish spending when so many people were starving throughout the country. The people rebelled and her trial and death took place in 1793 when she was 37 years old.
