I could not put this one down! Meet Ava and Mira Goodwin who are twins living in the future United States under a one-child only policy. Their father, Darren Goodwin, is the head of the Texas Family Planning Division and in order to protect his family he keeps his second daughter’s existence secret by allowing only one of them out of the house at a time. Both sisters go by the name Ava outside of the home and must make everyone believe they are the same person. At the end of each day they work over every detail of the day so the other twin can pick up where the first one left off in order to avoid discovery.

They are eventually found out and must escape their city to trek across thousands of miles to reach the Canadian border for asylum. During their cross-country journey to safety they come across a lot of people who yearn to cause an uprising against the one-child policy and believe that when citizens find out about the twins that they will have the courage to revolt. The need to keep each other safe and to avoid the Guard makes for such a good story that kept my attention from the very beginning and when it was over made me crave more. Thankfully I can say that Ashley and Leslie Saunders announced that the second book, The Rule of Many, is available for pre-order and will be out on May 7, 2019! I can hardly wait and have already pre-ordered my copy.
